CEREBRAL PALSY

Cerebral palsy is, usually, considered a birth defect. Cerebral palsy is a range of neuromuscular disorders caused by injury to an infant's brain sustained during late pregnancy, birth or any time during the first two years of life. Cerebral palsy is usually caused by the lack of sufficient oxygen to the baby's brain during the pregnancy. People with cerebral palsy have a wide range of difficulties, from clumsy walk to an inability to speak or swallow, which is caused by faulty messages sent from the brain to the muscles. Even with today's most sophisticated scans these malformation cannot be seen or traced.

Usually, cerebral palsy is believed to occur when the fetus is exposed to certain chemicals, infections, malnutrition to the expectant mother. Cerebral palsy can also be caused if the mother had to go through birth trauma, which was caused by a second person, intentionally or unintentionally such as unnecessary applied force during delivery.

When cerebral palsy is diagnosed and the parents learn about its effect, the mother and father often feel guilty and wonder what they did to cause their child to have this disorder but often times they fail to see if this is a result of someone else's negligence.

What may seem like a simple birth defect could be a result of malpractice. Our experts, at Mayer B. Gordon & Associates, help parents with cerebral palsy children to find out if the cause was through malpractice of a medical practitioner or someone else's.

Parents of a Cerebral Palsy child that was injured by a medical officer's negligence during birth may also have the right to seek compensation for the lifelong costs of raising that child that can include medical expenses, wage losses as a result of that injury, pain and suffering and mental suffering. We, at Mayer B. Gordon & Associates will help you with all our expertise and experience to give you full justice and compensation for your emotional trauma.
